Lynemouth & District History Society.
The Society was formed in 2003 after intense interest in three social history books were produced by a local author concentrating on the four villages of Lynemouth, Linton, Ellington and Cresswell.
The History Society meet at Lynemouth Resource Centre at 7pm every third Wednesday of the month from September to April.Speakers vary from month to month and give talks and slide shows on a wide range of subjects.Refreshments are provided free of charge in a warm, relaxing and friendly environment.
Membership is £5 per year and is open to all.Any person who visits for one session only pays £1.
The Society has swelled its ranks until there are now over 40 regular members who come from not only the immedite local villages but from Ashington, Newbiggin and as far North as Hadston.
A regular Summer outing is held with a historical theme in mind and visits in past years included Seaton Sluice and Delaval Hall, Tyne River Cruise and a Newcastle City and Gateshead tour all with hired guides.This year the Society outing will visit Heddon on the Wall, Wylam, Blanchland, Derwent Valley, and Corbridge.
In 2007 the Society kick started a project with a view to having a mining memorial at Ellington Colliery which closed in 2005 as the last Deep Coal Mine in the North East.This project is now well under way with funding secured and work on an iconic mining sculpture in progress and due to be unveiled in the Autumn of 2009.
An active Committee consists of Chairman Neil Taylor, Mary Taylor, Treasurer Alan Jameson, Brenda Oliphant, Eileen Brown, Secretary Jane Sivell, Hilary Knox.

Talk to you confidentially about yourself and any concerns you have.
Improve your general well-being by helping you to identify ways of improving your lifestyle.
Help you to plan and to carry out those changes.
Provide literature and give information on:
eating a healthy, balanced diet.
getting more exercise.
giving up smoking.
controlling your alcohol intake.
Introduce you to an exercise class or activity.
Offer encouragement and support to maintain your new healthier lifestyle.
Measure your height and weight.
Take your blood pressure and carbon monoxide readings.
Attend groups and provide information on healthy eating, weight management, making nutritional meals and snacks.
Signpost you to other services.
Northumberland NHS Health Trainers do NOT:
Deliver counselling.
Diagnose or treat medical conditions.
Deliver physical activity or therapy sessions.
Work with people who are aggressive, drunk or display attitude or behaviour that could put them at risk.
Home visits.
